By expecting the worst, I mean the worst from the Republicans at every level. We are seeing Trump doubling down on his law and order and conspiracy themes to scare white folks into voting for him. Cornyn, Roy and Biedermann are following his lead. Locally, we are called, socialists, communists, fascists and much worse. They will steal our campaign signs and put lies in the newspapers. We must answer with hard work, integrity, decency and more hard work. At this time in 2016, Hillary had a 12% lead about the same as Joe has now. We must not relax until November 4. I know that virtual fatigue is setting in but there is so much to do and the KCDP needs all of you to step up and help.

Trump is not an outlier; he represents what the Republican Party has become. It all started with Ronald Reagan and was pushed to new heights of demagoguery by Newt Gingrich. According to Princeton Historian, Julian Zelizer, “Ever since Republicans opened the doors to Gingrich, the Republican Party has never been the same. Gingrich pioneered the kind of tear-down the institution’s partisanship, where the imperatives of governance are always secondary, that continues to define the party to this day. It drives elected officials to constantly push the boundaries of what is legitimate in the name of partisan warfare. The party gatekeepers of yesteryear opened the doors to all of this. In 2020, not only can the so-called “establishment” not contain the renegades, the renegades have become the establishment. If there are any establishment figures left who feels qualms about Trump’s presidency, most will shove those concerns aside because Gingrich and Trump have helped maintain their power.”

As Democrats we are an excitingly diverse group of people and views. We welcome that diversity. It is our strength. We will need all our strength to turn our country around. We will need a leader with honor, integrity, knowledge and courage. Joe Biden was not on the top of my list when the primary season started but he has sure come on strong and has established himself as the future of this country. He must first win the election then bring the country together so we can start to solve the big problems that we face. This is a classic fight of good against evil. So please, contact us and volunteer. Be sure to “Vote Blue” and remember don’t stop at the top, vote for every Democrat.

Thank you for your support of the KCDP.
