Notes from the Chair: The Republican Faustian Bargain

After many years of observing Republican actions, I am moved to equate their behavior with the classic Faustian bargain and Trump as Mephistopheles. As an observer of the congressional impeachment hearings, I could not escape a sense of sadness watching the Republican’s flailing attempts to protect our lying, despicable President. They lowered themselves at every turn to discredit so many decent, ethical and honorable public servants.

Republicans long ago adopted a win at all costs strategy and these hearings show that they have doubled down to support a totally corrupt administration. Most telling is that every decent and ethical person in Trump’s administration have been fired or resigned, removing all checks on his outrageous acts. I hope the impeachment strategy works but bottom line we must replace any Republican in the White House with a Democrat. Just winning in 2020 isn’t enough we must have a total landslide to completely repudiate the Republican efforts to turn our nation into theocracy designed to make the rich richer and everyone else poorer.

I heard a Mr. Rogers quote in a Tom Hanks interview that really touched me. “What are the three things you can do to have a happy life? Be kind. Be kind. Be kind.”

I love it.

Finally, let me extend my personal appreciation for all that you are doing for the Kendall County Democratic Party.

Have a great Thanksgiving!
